Please can any pupils who have not returned their HPV Immunisation Forms, hand them into the school office by end of today.

Drama Exams
Pupils are reminded that the Higher Drama Performance Exams are next Wednesday, 23 March.  These exams take place in the Drama Studio and Drama Classroom (Art corridor).  Please be extremely quiet as you pass these areas so that the exam is not disturbed.

Inter-House Book Quiz
Last week the first inter-house Book Quiz was held.

15 S1-S3 pupils took part, representing all three houses.  Well done to all of them.

The Regional Developing the Young Workforce for Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian will be hosting a Young Persons Jobs Roadshow, allowing employers an opportunity to showcase their vacancies to a vast talent pool of school and college leavers across the region.

S6 pupils – LEAPS Summer School
Applications for the 2016 LEAPS Summer School are now open on the LEAPS website.
The deadline for completed applications is 5pm, Friday 25 March.
A reminder of some of the key points of Summer School…
·         Summer School is a seven-week programme for LEAPS-eligible students who are holding one or more UCAS offers. (NB Priority places given to those holding conditional offers.)
 
·         It is a valuable opportunity to get a true feel for university study and to impress admissions tutors.
 
·         Every year, a number of students attending the LEAPS Summer School gain access to their chosen university course on the basis of Summer School reports in cases where they haven't met their conditions.
Students can find out more information about the LEAPS Summer School and how to apply, on the school website.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers
The Health and Well Being Faculty are collecting Sainsburys Active Schools vouchers.  If anyone at home shops in Sainsburys please ask them to take the vouchers when offered.  You can then bring them in to your registration teacher!

The final payment of £15 is now due.  This must be paid by Friday 5th May.  Anyone who has yet to return their contract must also do so asap.

Photography Exhibition on Thursday, 24 March 2016
On Thursday, 24 March 2016, the last day of term, a Photography Exhibition will be held in the library during Period 3.  The Exhibition will showcase all of the Photography students work for the Year.  All students are welcome to come along with their class teacher.

Easter Opt in Service
The chaplains are holding an opt in Christian assembly/service on Thursday, 24 March at 10am to Celebrate Easter. The theme of the assembly is sacrifice. The office staff have put a sign-up sheet Into each register folder. If you want to go to this assembly, please sign up on the sheet.  There will be a tannoy on Thursday during Registration to catch any last minute pupils who want to go. Please come along and support the chaplaincy team.

Last Day of term – Thursday 24th March - Information for pupils, parents and carers
Please note that the last day of term for this session is Thursday 24th March. This will be a normal school day and school will finish at 3.25pm. There is an opt in Easter service at 10.00am for any pupil who wishes to attend.

This is not a dress down day and pupils should arrive in full school uniform.

We look forward to welcoming many of our senior students during the Easter holidays for Easter revision classes. Every minute of revision counts.

Finally, I would like to wish all our pupils, families and partners a safe and happy Easter holiday when it arrives.

Congratulations Jamie Lee Aquino and David Harrold
Congratulations to Jamie-Lee Aquino and David Harrold who performed outstandingly in the Usher Hall on Monday 7th March at a prestigious concert. They performed on guitar along with others and a choir of 300 members and to an audience of 950!!!  Well done!

Third Green Flag
Gracemount High School has this week been awarded its third green flag.  Thank you to all pupils who continue to make the school, local and global environments a better place to live. Special thanks must be made to past and present members of the eco committee, especially Katie Kovacs, Jane Collins, Courtney Woodhouse and Shannon Mc Neil who have put a great of effort into the eco committee.  Can everyone within the school please continue to make the effort to keep using the appropriate bins and put only bottles in the new dining room bottle bins.

PE Practical Assessment
A reminder to all National 5 and Higher pupils, that your ‘One Off’ Performance Assessment will take place next Tuesday 15th March.  All pupils must attend this, it is worth 60% of your overall grade.  Make sure you are thinking about the challenges you will face when performing so you are prepared to answer you planning questions.

Any pupils that have outstanding HE fees must make these payments ASAP.  Letters have been sent home to remind parents.  Any pupil who has not paid by the end of next week will not be taking part in the practical cooking lessons.

Senior Pupils - Summer Playschemes
INC is a charity partnership currently recruiting Playworkers and Volunteers across 4 venues in Edinburgh during the summer holidays (4th July – 13th August 2016), supporting children and young people with disabilities to participate in a range of fun holiday activities & outings.

They are looking for responsible, energetic and enthusiastic individuals who can easily relate to children and young people and have the right attitude and values along with communication skills, patience, reliability, commitment, and a sense of fun. Full training will be provided.

Paid positions (£6.70–£8.00 + annual leave) are available for those with the required skills and attitude. However, this is not required for those seeking voluntary positions. Please note that the minimum age for volunteers is 16.

Lost Property
The PE department has amassed a large volume of lost property.  If any pupils have lost PE kit/school uniform since Christmas, please see Mrs Fraser. 

It would be most helpful if Parents/Carers or pupils could put names on their clothing as this would allow clothes to be returned to pupils.

S1 Outward Bound Payments
Thanks to all S1 pupils who returned their payments on time. The deadline for payment was Monday, but unfortunately I have still to receive payments from several pupils! Please get your money in as soon as possible and if you are having any difficulties you should come and see me during registration time.

For any S1 pupils interested in playing in a Samba Band, please come to music room 1 on Monday at 1.15pm.

ECO Green Flag
As the schools Green Flag application is being evaluated next week please can all pupils be especially careful not to drop litter in and around the school and make sure they use the appropriate bins.  Only plastic bottles should be placed in the newly modified dining halls bins.

Screen Education Edinburgh are offering young people aged 16-25 a practical 5 day course in Media (film making) starting 22nd March 2016 through The Princess Trust ‘Get Started Programme’.
