Edinburgh Schools’ Under 13 League
We are delighted to announce that Gracemount High School will be entering a team in the Edinburgh Schools’ Under 13 League this season.

Any pupil who are not part of the School of Football group who are interested in being part of the team should see Mr Nicolson ASAP.

Football Forum Lunchtime Club
Are you a fan of Football? Do you think that you have a good knowledge of the beautiful game? Then the Football Forum is for you.

The Football Forum is a new lunchtime club open to all pupils from S1-S6. The club will be held in ICT5 on a Wednesday at lunchtime and pupils can bring their lunch along.

The purpose of the club is to talk about football and to share your knowledge with each other. Each session will involve a presentation from a staff member or pupil on a football related topic.

If the club is a success and we plan to take all members on a trip to watch an English Premier League game later in the year. For more information, please speak to Mr Whale.

S5/6 Pupils

Work Experience Placement 

Quantity Surveying / Commercial 

Morrison Construction would like to invite applications for a work experience placement with our commercial team at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital Phase 2 project site. This is a three year £120m project in Morningside, Edinburgh. The placement would be particularly suited to pupils considering a career as a Quantity Surveyor, or with an interest in the commercial aspects of construction.

Morrison Construction are flexible in the timing of the work placement, but are keen for it to last the whole year.

Skills and qualities required:

·         Competent in IT

·         Self-motivated

·         The ability to manage your own time and prioritise tasks.

·         Good written communication

Order forms are now available in the PE Department for ordering the above items. There are also a range of sizes that you can try on before buying.

ParentPay
The school is now live on ParentPay and activation letters have been sent out to open individual accounts.  Wherever possible, payments should now be made via ParentPay.  If you are unable to make payments online, the School can provide a barcode letter linked to the payment which can be used to pay at any outlet with a PayPoint logo. 

 Our aim is to become a cashless school and we welcome your support in this initiative.

Career Events
The University of Edinburgh will be holding a series of careers events during October and November for and S5 or S6 pupils who are considering a career in the following professions: Engineer, Vet, Biomedical Scientist, Lawyer, Social Worker or a Nurse.

S6 Pupils
Acting, Film, Journalism & Music Workshops
Any S6 pupils thinking about applying to studying any of the above at College or University, there is an opportunity for you to attend some LEAPS run workshops in October or November to give your further insight and support with your application.



UCAS Personal Statement Workshop for LEAPS eligible pupils – Friday 6th October (2.30pm – 4.30pm)
The University of Edinburgh are running a workshop giving advice and guidance regarding personal statements for *LEAPS eligible* UCAS applicants.

Gymnastic Club
Gymnastic after school class will start back on Tuesday the 19th of September, 3.30 to 5pm in the small gym.  All welcome, no talent necessary just lots of enthusiasm and willingness to work hard.

The Health Opportunities Team Gilmeron Health Drop In
The Health Opportunities Team Gilmerton health Drop-in is on every Wednesday evening between 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Gilmerton Community Centre. The Drop in is a free and confidential service, where young people aged 12-25 can access advice, support and information on all health issues, including sexual health.  Pop in to say hi, join in the activities or stay to get some 1 to 1 advice – it’s your choice.

A reminder that all S3-S6 students should be bringing their iPads in charged.  Above 50% should be sufficient to see you through the day.

Please continue to take care of your iPad and do not play games on them during lesson time.  Remember that there is a complete ban on Snapchat and if students continue to use Facebook Messenger in lessons, there may well be a complete ban on that app too!

If you do not have your iPad because it is being repaired, then it is your responsibility to speak to your teacher for any paper copies of theory notes and homework exercises etc. in the meantime.

Instrumental Lessons
Pupils interested in applying for Instrumental Lessons.  This is especially for S1, but also for other year groups.

Those who have signed up for instrumental lessons need to see the relevant instructor as soon as possible.  You may come during registration, break, or lunch to the Music Staff Base.

All seniors who had their photo taken should have received an envelope through registration.

Please note if you wish to order the prefects photo it is to be added to this form too.  There is a copy of the photo in his School Office window.

Envelopes are to be returned to the school office with either cheque or cash.  No change can be given.

City of Edinburgh Council Catering have a number of vacancies in local schools for the delivery of school meals.  These are mostly 8, 10 or 16 hour posts over lunch times, there are some with longer hours.

Over the last quarter there have been many changes to the School of Football Programme at Gracemount HS. Our aim is simple; to support all participants to achieve to their potential.

Some places have become available for the fantastic opportunity to go to Krakow for three days and two nights in June 2018. This involves the following:

A visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and death camps; a talk from a Holocaust survivor; a tour round Krakow city; a visit to Oskar Schindler’s factory. If you are interested, please come and see Miss Barry on Monday at break time for more information.
