Outward Bound – Important Message to all S1’s!
There is still time to get your name down for the August 2018, S1 Outward Bound Trip, but you need to get a move on as I send off names and numbers to Outward Bound on Thursday, this week.  Anybody still wanting to go should complete the tear off slips from their letters and hand them to me or the office before Thursday. Further spaces might be available, but I cannot guarantee this, so get those slips in!

GHS Lunchtime Charging Station
Any pupils who are low on battery on their iPads can bring them to ICT 5 at the beginning of lunchtime, we will charge them over lunch and you can collect them 5 mins before the end.  This will mean you are fully prepared for your afternoon lessons.

Skills Scotland Trip
Skills Development Scotland are holding the annual Skills Scotland event on Thursday 9th of November, 12.30-14.30. This trip is open to all S4-S6 pupils who are intending on leaving school at the end of the school year. Hundreds of employers are involved with the event and there will be many opportunities to meet employers and learn more about potential opportunities. We have 50 spaces and it will be fire come first served. For more information speak to Mr Whale.

There is French study on every Wednesday in Mrs Towers’ room. This is mainly for senior pupils but if any juniors wish to come along they are always welcome. You can also get help with homework.

The Expressive Arts Show 2018 Coming Soon
This will include any type of performances related to Expressive Arts.  Examples are singing, dancing, drama, gymnastics, photography and film etc.
It will also include a photography slideshow and a fashion show to display Nat 4/5 and Higher fashion pieces.
Auditions will be held On Wednesday, 8 November.
A sign-up sheet will be provided by Miss Grisdale.  Come to her room at any time.

The school is now live on ParentPay and activation letters have been sent out to open individual accounts.  Wherever possible, payments should now be made via ParentPay.  If you are unable to make payments online, the School can provide a barcode letter linked to the payment which can be used to pay at any outlet with a PayPoint logo. 
Our aim is to become a cashless school and we welcome your support in this initiative.

The Health Opportunities Team Gilmerton health Drop-in is on every Wednesday evening between 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Gilmerton Community Centre. The Drop in is a free and confidential service, where young people aged 12-25 can access advice, support and information on all health issues, including sexual health.  Pop in to say hi, join in the activities or stay to get some 1 to 1 advice – it’s your choice.

S1 Pupils - Outward Bound Trip 2018
This is a reminder that, because of the October week holiday, there are only just 10 school days left for you to return the tear of slips part of your letters, to get your name on the list for the Outward Bound Trip in August.
 
Tear off slips should be returned either to Mr Wyllie, in Social Subjects, or the school office as soon as possible.  You then have until Wednesday 31st October to use ParentPay to pay your £55 deposit.

Spare Outward Bound letters are available from Mr Wyllie.  Parents and carers with questions about using ParentPay should contact the school office staff.

Muay Thai Kickboxing Club
Due to a lack of pupils attending the Muay Thai club Mr Whale is going to have to cancel this until further notice. Please keep an eye on the newsletter to find out when the club will start again.

Bake Sale
There will be a Halloween themed Bake Sale at break time in the dining hall on Tuesday, 24 October 2017.  All proceeds will go towards the school’s chosen charity.

 
 
Gymnastic Club
Still spaces in the after school gymnastics club, Tuesdays, 3.30 to 5pm in the small gym.  All welcome, no talent necessary just lots of enthusiasm and willingness to work hard.

To All S3-S6 Students
A reminder that all S3-S6 students should be bringing their iPads in charged.  Above 50% should be sufficient to see you through the day.
Please continue to take care of your iPad and do not play games on them during lesson time.  Remember that there is a complete ban on Snapchat and if students continue to use Facebook Messenger in lessons, there may well be a complete ban on that app too!
If you do not have your iPad because it is being repaired, then it is your responsibility to speak to your teacher for any paper copies of theory notes and homework exercises etc. in the meantime.

Edinburgh Schools’ Under 13 League
We are delighted to announce that Gracemount High School will be entering a team in the Edinburgh Schools’ Under 13 League this season.

Any pupil who are not part of the School of Football group who are interested in being part of the team should see Mr Nicolson ASAP.

Football Forum Lunchtime Club
Are you a fan of Football? Do you think that you have a good knowledge of the beautiful game? Then the Football Forum is for you.

The Football Forum is a new lunchtime club open to all pupils from S1-S6. The club will be held in ICT5 on a Wednesday at lunchtime and pupils can bring their lunch along.

The purpose of the club is to talk about football and to share your knowledge with each other. Each session will involve a presentation from a staff member or pupil on a football related topic.

If the club is a success and we plan to take all members on a trip to watch an English Premier League game later in the year. For more information, please speak to Mr Whale.

Acting, Film, Journalism & Music Workshops

Any S6 pupils thinking about applying to studying any of the above at College or University, there is an opportunity for you to attend some LEAPS run workshops in October or November to give your further insight and support with your application.

UCAS Personal Statement Workshop for LEAPS eligible pupils – Friday 6th October (2.30pm – 4.30pm)

The University of Edinburgh are running a workshop giving advice and guidance regarding personal statements for *LEAPS eligible* UCAS applicants.
